Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge Processor

Intel has introduced Sandy bridge followed by Ivy bridge processor in market in way back early 2009 and 2012 respectively.When come to say about difference between these two processors, most people find themselves in dilemma when trying to figure out the difference between both processors.The reason for posting this article is as follows. From long time ,i'm receiving this question to answer and i answered frequent times.Thus,thought to directly post here so that it may help most of the newbies out there who are dwelling with this question!
Following are the differences between Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge Processor: 

Sandy Bridge Processor:

  • Released in market under Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 in early 2011
  • Intel Followed a micro architecture " TICK-TOCK " model and Assigned Sandy " TOCK "
  • Supports Integrated graphics.
  • Hardware support for Video Encoding and Decoding
  • Available in One , Two and Four Cores.
  • Difficult to overclock
  • Backward compatible
Ivy Bridge Processor:
Features and Specifications of Ivy Bridge Processor
  • Ivy Bridge Processors were introduced in early 2011
  • Released in market in early 2012 under Intel Core desktop processors.
  • Intel Followed a micro architecture " TICK-TOCK " model and Assigned Sandy " TICK ".
  • PCI Express 3.0 Supported processors.
  • Intel Quick Sync Video version 2 supported
  • Intel HD Graphics support with DirectX 11
  • OpenGL 3.1 and OpenCL 1.1 Support
  • Increase in CPU Performance by 5% - 10% than Sandy Bridge.
  • Increase in Integrated GPU performance by 25% - 68% than Sandy Bridge.
  • Temperature higher than Sandy Bridge by 10 degrees. 
  • Use less Power compared to Sandy Bridge
